I never knew that the abolition of slavery worldwide was encouraged by British forces, even capturing illegal slave ships and freeing the slaves back in Africa. It's very ironic that slavery was used as a justification for the scramble for Africa. They must have seen the irony at the time, or are people too good at tricking themselves? who knows.
